Gay Rappers

The video below has been responsible for much of the laughter my friends and I have enjoyed this year since discovering it on youtube (the source of all you're entertainment needs - lol) . I won't say too much about it since I want you to come up with your own impressions on the video.

Warning - not suitable for children.

Mario & Sonic at the olympic games

I know what some of you are thinking, "Oh no, not another track game!". But quite frankly as someone who loves the sport of track & field, I could find no better way to spend my time in front of the tv than to be playing this glorious game! Ok, maybe that was a little bit overboard, there is espn, mtv and bet to keep my company but thats besides the fact, Mario & Sonic at the olympic games is a great game for the nintendo wii despite the sub-par reviews on many popular video game websites. Whats so great about it? Firstly, you get to play as a host of characters from the super mario franchise and sonic legacy, including:

  • Bowser
  • Yoshi
  • Wario
  • Knuckles
  • Shadow
  • Dr Eggman

As well as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Daisy, Vector, Dash and a few others. You can also play as your mii characters (and this time they have hands and feet unlike in wii sports). There are a plethora of sports to choose from not just track and field as the game covers many of the sports done at the olympics, this includes, archery, rowing, gymastics, skeet (shooting), table tennis, track & field and some others I can't remember now. In track, you may choose from the:

  1. 100m
  2. 110m hurdles
  3. 400m
  4. 400m hurdles
  5. 4x100m

All of which are multiplayer. The field events are also multiplayer and require a bit more skill, especially the horizontal jumps (long jump and triple jump). There is a glitch in the high jump where after clearing 2.60m you aren't allowed to continue and automatically win. As a result the world record cannot go any higher than 2.60m (which is not that hard to attain). Additionally the impressions made in the sand from long and triple jump do not coincide with the resulting marks received. For example, lets say Luigi lands in the sand close to the 6.50 meter mark, more often than not the resulting measurement is over 7.00 meters. Additionally like some of it's predecessors (sydney olympics ps2) a large part of achieving success in the 100m is getting a great start and that requires you to start running right before you hear the gun since its impossible to react on time off hearing.

The controls are not complicated, for the running events you move the wii remote and nunchuck(or wii remote only) up and down to run - the faster you do this, the faster you will run, it's that simple. The jumping events involve the same running motion and swining the wii remote and nunchuck (for the triple jump and high jump) up. Hurdling and the throws (discus, javelin and hammer) involve incorporating the B button by pressing it when prompted to do so. Of the track events the 4x100m (400m) relay is by far the most complicated, and tiring. The user must run, then after buidling up enough speed, trigger the receiving team member to move off, hand the baton over and begin running again. After a few tries you get the hang of it, but it is VERY tiring!

There are special events and trophies which can be unlocked after completing missions in single player mode. One draw back is that there is no online play. As a consolation, you're able to see how your personal records compare against other users online.

Overall the game is really fun and if you're competitive you will at the very least get a workout from from flailing your hands repeatedly.

Here are a couple videos of a friend and I playing.

Timbaland & One Republic - Apologise spongebob style

By now we should all be familiar with "Apologise" by timbaland and one republic, "It's too late to apologise...." . The song has established itself as the designated tear jerker for the holiday season. That said, I came across this not so sad version of the song on youtube while searching for videos of Jamaican DJ - Mavado. The user c4unitx (whatever that stands for) has many videos mixing cartoons with polular songs. What's mind boggling is how well these productions are, the timing between the movements of the cartoon characters and words of the song are on point, and relevant. I have become quite a fan of c4unitx (weird user name.. still can't get over it) my favorite productions are:

300 VS Mavado
South park vs Busy Signal
Helsing vs Busy Signal

and of course..

Nintendo Wii Mii Characters

I bought a nintendo wii from one of my friends after giving up on getting one at bestbuy or target. (Sorry, we're sold out and we don't know when we're going to get some)
The wii's controls though odd looking takes a short time to get accustommed to. The biggest draw back would be the batteries needed for the wii remote and the alarming fact that the nunchuck attachment is sold separate from the wii remote! (Your looking at over 60 dollars US if you live in a state with a lot of taxes!) Anyway, this isn't about the glorious features and innovative woop ti doos of the wii, its about this nifty website aptly named miicharacters.com
Miicharacters.com is geared towards showing wii console owners step by step ways to create Miis which resemble their favourite movie, cartoon, sports stars etc without going through the laborious - sometimes annoying Mii creation. But wait a minute. Whats a Mii? In a nutshell a Mii (pronounced Me - i tink) is a character which you create from the wii's main menu and may play as on wii sports, wii play and some other nintendo wii games.
Miicharacters.com is easy to use and fun, plus, a lot of the Mii's look really good! (check batman and chicken little out!)

Kanye West Parody

"Laaaaa laaaaa laaaaa laaaa... wait till I get my money right "is the opening line to the popular jingle by Kanye West entitled "Can't Tell Me Nothing".

I ran across this piece of junk while searching for "cant tell me nothing" on youtube. Initially I was grossly disappointed to say the very least, and also quite confused. However, the video becomes really humorous as it progresses. The maker of the video Zach Galifianakis gives his "special" interpretation of Kanye's newest hit single. Unlike other, low budget (LOL) youtube parody videos, Galifianakis appears to put much thought and sweat into the production of this masterpiece (really now..).

His country flavored (flavoured for the English) spin is some what refreshing and light as the topics ranted on in Kanye's poetic tirade are far from shallow. But I've said too much. Have a look for yourself.

Pay special attention to the tractor with "hydraulics" and the video girls on the hill doing riverdance!

Miss Teen USA - South Carolina

Question

"Recent Poles have shown that a fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S on a world map. Why do you think this is?"

First of all, this question seems very elementary and trivial to me, VERY trivial as a matter of fact. Now let me attempt to analyze this seemingly frivolous brain buster.

"Recent poles" - So the question is based on some form of a fact, though we may not be cognizant of the specifics behind the polling done.

"A 1/5th of Americans" - So are we including immigrants, green card holders, people who were born and grew up in America? America's population is roughly 300 million. 300 million multiplied by 1/5 equals 60 million.

So it can be inferred from the above statement that approximately 60 million Americans(possibly including immigrants) cannot locate the U.S on a world map.

Say this is a couple times;

"60 million Americans cannot locate the U.S on a world map"
(Keep going)

(mmm hmmm... dont stop yet)

(let it marinate for a while)

Now that we've grasped that premise. Lets take apart some keys parts of miss South Carolina's response.

(I am tempted to 'abort mission' as this is really pointless.. Did you really say some Americans don't have maps!?!?)

"I personally believe" First of all, if you're gonna say you "believe" something, its assumed and understood that this is your view - "personal" view. Maybe she used redundancy to accentuate her following point:

Now, the rest of what she said is kind of hard to unscramble. Seriously, here was my valiant attempt to decode it,
"I believe our education, uh... such as South Africa, and Iraq, everywhere like, such as and.. I believe they should.. Our education over here should help the U.S"

What are you really talking about here!?!?!?!?!?!

It must be tough being on stage, being in the hot seat in front of thousands of people. However, you signed up for it, you were trained for it (I assume) and you certainly put on the gown and make up for it.
I just don't think you had the uhhh.... head space? brain? No, thats harsh, you didn't have the composure for it.
I have one question for you

Miss teen USA - South Carolina,

DO YOU HAVE A MAP?

College

Today I started my fourth semester of college and man was I not ready to be back in school! I had very few college supplies, most of which I had from previous semesters. That is, old pens, pencils and notebooks that were already used. I have no food in my apartment, and little or no money. Yes, I know you've thought it, I' m living the true college experience. But thats not all, I had to sleep on my couch for two days because I didn't have any bed linen, pillows etc. Additionally, I had no soap, toothpaste, nor other toiletries. You might be thinking, thats not college life, thats caveman life. Or maybe, your'e thinking if thats college life, I've been in college since birth (For your sake I hope not). Whichever echelon you may belong to it you can agree that not living in the comfort you would like is the pits.

"I thought you said this blog was about random junk from across the web?"

Not to worry good sir/madam, as promised here is my junk of the day! [ With a college touch ;-) ]

Think about your favorite collegiate sport. Now, think about your favorite collegiate team from that sport. Next.. (I'm going somewhere with this) Think about your favorite collegiate mascot.

Let me take a guess... Was it:

Sammy the banana slug? Probably not. But here's the thing, Sammy the banana slug is in my opinion the head of a very elite group of mascots. What group is that?

Mascots who never made it

Serving alongside Sammy the banana slug (University of California Santa Cruz) on the board of directors are:
  • Super frog the horned frog (Texas Christian University)
  • The fighting pickle (North Carolina school of arts)
  • Artie the fighting artichoke (Scottsdale community college)
  • The Bollweevil (University of Arkansas, Monticello)
  • The fighting okra (Delta State University)
